Linear A is one of the three different writing systems that have been used in in ancient Crete. My endeavor to design a font with all known Linear A symbols (both simple and complex) started as a school project with my students at the so called "Second Chance School" at Xanthi, Greece. My students managed to finish roughly fifty glyphs with my aid, while the rest of them were prepared by me. The font has been created by employing the techniques described in Syropoulos A., Replicating archaic documents: A typographic challenge, TUGboat 24(3), pp 319-322, 2003. The shapes of the glyphs have been "borrowed" from Recueil des Inscriptions en Linéare A, Volume 5, by Louis Godart and Jean-Pierre Olivier. The author is grateful to his students and in particular to Apostolos Bakalakis for his enthusiasm and his help.
From this site one may get the Linear A Postscript font (it contains all simple symbols) and/or the Linear A Complex Signs Postscript font (it contains the complex signs of the script plus some "numerical" symbols). Alternatively, one may get the Linear A TrueType font and/or the Linear A Complex Signs TrueType font. In addition, the Linear A LaTeX package can be used to typeset "texts" using the PostScript fonts.
