The tragic loss of a person

There are certain events that deeply affect the life of every person. Such a tragic event is the loss of a person you really love. Unfortunately, on September 13, 2000, my beloved brother Mikhail Syropoulos passed away. He had had a terrible traffic accident on September 2, 2000 that eventually took his life. Below is a photo of Mikhail.

Why this happened?

Whenever something bad happens in our lives, we are always looking for a scapegoat. My case wouldn't be an exception. However, I strongly believe that my brother's case shows in the most vivid way the impotence of the Greek state. On September 2, 2000 my brother was at a crossoroad waiting for a truck to cross the road. The truck's speed was over the speed limit. He wanted to go to the other lane, naturally most highways in Greece have only two lanes. He believed that he could cross the road. The truck driver realized that there was danger ahead and so he naturally blew the horn, without reducing speed. All happened in a fraction of a second. After the accident, the police came. Then arrived an ambulance. And naturally nobody really cared to inform his relatives. Then, they took him to the hospital. There they realized that it was necessary to perform an operation, but naturally there was no specilized physician to operate him. At the same time they realized that the surgery wasn't enough, as it was necessary to hospitalize him at an intensive care unit. Naturally the local hospital has no such unit and so they had to take him to a hospital with a vacancy in its intensive care unit. So, they managed to find a hospital 54 Km west of my home town to perform the surgery. Naturally this hospital had no intensive care unit and so they had to look for another hospital. They managed to find one 54 Km east of my home town. And after these crucial decisions had been taken, the Ulyssean adventure of my brother started. Following a sucessful surgery at the second hospital, he was transfered to a third hospital. There it was necessary to perform blood transfusion, but only naturally in Greece blood transplants have to be sought from volunteering friends and relatives. Hopefully, there were many donators. But unfortunately this wasn't enough. Do you expect the police to take any action? Naturally the answer is NO! Sadly, this is not the only case that happened and will happen in the European Union member state that is called Greece.
